Rooted in the heart of Minneapolis’s largest, most diverse neighborhood since 1883, Calvary Baptist Church houses a welcoming, thriving faith community where people take root, heal, learn and grow every day.

Reaching high above the Whittier skyline, the inspiring steeple atop Calvary’s historic building is a sign of the church’s enduring physical presence in the neighborhood and a symbol of hope and beauty to the community.

Restoring the steeple and aging exterior of Calvary’s building is a critical next step forward in creating stability that allows Calvary’s neighbors, partners and congregation to collaborate and celebrate all stages of life and flourish in the heart of Whittier for generations

Calvary seeks to raise $1 million by 2026 to ensure the critical restoration to the steeple and the sanctuary exterior. Such a goal is outside the scope of Calvary’s annual operating budget, which already supports ongoing maintenance and repairs.

The campaign is off to a strong start. Calvary was selected from nearly 400 applicants to receive a $200,000 grant from the National Fund for Sacred Places. This award celebrates Calvary’s historic and cultural importance and for its role in strengthening communities. Combined with early pledges from leading donors, Calvary has made significant progress, but financial support from Calvary’s congregation and the broader community is needed.
